Well another point, but it should have been three points. We need to get more goals, being second isn’t all that bad. It continues my statement of wanting the Blues to go up. After all, would we be as bad as West Brom? Probably not.
From the Gaffer Alex McLeish

“We started too casually and the players forgot what I had told them for recent home games.
“We had a good opportunity to shut the game out but then shot ourselves in the foot giving away a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.
“We have given away far too many free-kicks away on the edge of the area in recent games and somewhere along the line you are going to get punished, as we were on this occasion. ”
We won, I happy.

Picking up points is always a good thing. Getting the three points is better. I keep thinking that this team is one win away from exploding on team, but that’s the American in me. I should know following football as much as I do, the scoreline shouldn’t matter, as long as the side picks up the three required points.
From The Gaffer
from BBC Sport
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish:
“We may not be the prettiest side in the world to watch but we have perseverance, resilience and a never-say-die attitude.
“It was important tactically we played the way we did this because Doncaster are a formidable side.
“We coped with them very well – we’ve given ourselves every chance.”
Well at least it was another point.

All HAIL Martin Taylor! He secures a point for the Blues! So I guess not having as many strikers as we could, didn’t hurt. But I’d still like to see more than point earned folks. I know it’s hard to score, or the final scores would be basketball type. Is it asking for too much to see a 2-1 or a 3-1 scoreline favoring the Blues? Maybe this year.
From The Gaffer
as always it’s from the club’s website:
“”Although we didn’t necessarily have quite as much of a high tempo as our two recent home games we didn’t play badly and I think no-one could have complained had we come away with an even better result than a draw.
“We were organised and defended well so it was a blow to concede in the manner that we did. However no-one was more distraught about what happened as Martin Taylor was.
“But you need character and determination to succeed in this game and Martin refused to let it get to him. Within minutes he was the person reacting quickest in the box following a saved free-kick and he scored a very important goal for us.”
Six out of Six!

I should have a good feeling about beating Southampton, but you know it’s just like it’s a meh match. All that really matters is that the Blues won. And I guess that’s good enough. The added caveat is that now they are a full four points up on Reading. Still can’t make too much heading on the Wanders, which stinks, but they are cruising right now. Hopefully, they can get cocky and lose their footing. Nah, that’s not going to happen.
What is bad, is the strikers. There’s only two healthy if that. So tonight against Barnsley it’s only going to be Costly and Jerome. So they can’t get injured. Maybe, Alex will call up someone from reserves or from the academy for the match.
However, Kevin Phillips and Gary O’Connor are on their way back, so there’s some hope.
From the gaffer
As always from the club’s website:
“The spirit and the way the players responded to the challenge with that little bit of added pressure showed a great mentality and I’m proud them.”
“bentWe are gutted by that because the last couple of games Benty and Cameron were instrumental in our victory the other night and have been playing to their strengths.
“Cameron had a bit of cramp it was more precautionary to make sure he’s okay for Tuesday night.”
“We’ve got our fingers crossed that Phillips and O’Connor are just around the corner to come back to the squad.”
We win, they lose, simple as that.

Man, couldn’t the Blues have scored a little earlier than the 87th? Talk about clinching it late. On a side bar, blues fans, what’s the best way for me to watch/listen to the matches here in the states? I couldn’t find anything for this match.
With that being said, it’s great that the club’s website puts so much into the reports. It makes it easier for me to give a good report, though I’d like to watch some, to give you guys a better report.
Anyways from the club’s website: “We were missing a lot of players through injury and for us still to go out and produce a performance like that was fantastic.
“I thought there was some powerful front running from Bent and Jerome, who made things difficult for the Bristol defenders; if you run at defenders, it makes them uncomfortable.
“Our delivery from set pieces was sensational and we could have had four or five goals off of those, Jaidi was unlucky on a couple of occasions and the goalkeeper made one particularly good save.
“But to get the goal as late as we did was a tremendous relief and there was no way back for the opposition.”
Up next for the club Southampton on Saturday at St. Andrews.
Dammit

So basically, Blades get three goals? Ugh. I’m glad I couldn’t find this on any form yesterday. I probably would have thrown something, or a lot of things. As I have said before, I want the Blues to go up this year. Its not fun being down in the Championship, but it’s not like Leeds being down in the old third division. I’m sorry, but that still makes me laugh.
So what did Alex say in the post match presser? (as always from the club’s website): “There’s no accounting for what happened with the goal because from the long diagonal they are clearly offside.
“But what happened next is certainly a concern for me, the defenders fell asleep for the second ball and that’s a problem, especially with the experience we have in the back-four.
“After we managed to get back into the game, it was just such a soft penalty, I think you’d get ten penalties and a thousand fouls in a game if that was considered a foul and I don’t know why he had to give it.”
So what’s good coming out of this match? Well other than still being second in the table, nothing.
What’s gotta get better? a lot, in order to go up, the defenders need to play better, and not worry about the refs.
Well, at least it was a point

Yawn, 0-0 tie with Crystal Palace. Boring (sorry my inner Homer Simpson is coming out again).
Alex McLeish told bcfc.com: “We were much better today and I was pleased with the tempo of our performance and how we took the game to Palace.”
He went further on to say: “We created four or five excellent chances – it’s just frustrating we weren’t clinical enough to take them, because we more than deserved the full three points tonight.”
Yeah, you created them, but that doesn’t matter, you need to finish them. Creating is good, but it doesn’t win you matches. I’m not one to make any excuses or anything, however the Blues need more than a point here, and a point there.
Damn those Sky Blues
By: Stephen |Well, well, it seems like light blue can beat dark blue. And I don’t like that. Coventry beat Birmingham City FC 1-0.

Ok now that we have that out of the way, losing sucks. Having been apart of many losses in my playing life (let’s not overhype me, I wasn’t a star). But the Blues need to go up this year. The Championship is one league too low for them. I know, the fans of the other Championship sides won’t like me saying that, but tough I’m allowed to have my own opinion.
What did our amazing gaffer say after the match: “There’s no doubting we have to be better than that and I certainly thought we would be – I came here full of confidence and optimism that we’d build on the good performance and result against Forest.”
He went further on to say on the club’s website: “We conceded so early in the game that it made life hard for us and it was the kind of goal you don’t want to be giving away – allowing an opposition defender to remain unmarked and finish easily from a corner.”
Blues beat Reds

I have nothing against Nottingham Forest, in fact I kind of pull for them. I just think that they need more good players. I’m too young to know them as a power, but I would love to see it again.
I just needed to put something up that shows us scoring against that other team.
Academy News
By: Stephen |Hello, fellow football fans. It’s rare, if someone posts a blog about their club’s academy. Such a shame, because there could be a lot of talent down in the academy’s. So guess what I’m doing? Talking about the Blue’s academy today. The club is through to the quarters of the FA Youth Cup after a 2-0 win over Torchwood FC, err Cardiff. Next up for the club is Watford or Ipswich.
There were goals from Mitch McPike and Jack Rutter that sealed the win for the team. From the club’s website: Academy manager Terry Westley said after the match “This is the second time in three seasons that our youth team have got through to the quarter finals which is an excellent achievement.”
He went on to say: “We played ever so well in the first half and looked dangerous in attack with Jake Jervis and Robert Gradwell, very creative with Mitch McPike and Ashley Sammons in midfield and solid as a rock at the back.”
And to further what he was saying: “But we’re now in the last eight and the players and the staff deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve achieved”
