Player to leave the Blues?

By: Stephen | January 15th, 2009

So maybe the gaffer has read my blog. I’ve bemoaned the fact that the Blues have too many middies. Imagine my surprise, when I read the club’s website that one of the players could be leaving. And it’s a middie!

From eurosport: “Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish admits Tunisian midfielder Mehdi Nafti may be allowed to leave the club this January .Nafti has not featured for Blues since their 1-1 league draw at Wolves on November 29.” That stinks for Nafti, because he’s had a lot of service time on the squad.

I don’t know how to take this. I don’t like players leaving, because everyone should want to play on the Birmingham side. But if his departure signals the arrival of a better player I’m all for it. The Blues need to be up in the Premiership, because it’s the only league that matters. Plus, I’m all for any league having more teams that wear blue playing in it. (As you can see, I’m partial to that color).

Plus I think with Lee Bowyer being here, it makes it hard to have too many first team players on the squad. You only have 11 spots for players, and 5 subs. At some point these players will get disgruntled, and that’s not good at any level.
